Established April 1, 1973 when the Department of Mines, Agriculture and Resources split to form the Department of Mines and Energy and the Department of Forestry and Agriculture. Name changed August 1979? to Department of Forest Resources and Lands when the agriculture functions of the Department of Foresty and Agriculture transferred to the new Department of Rural, Agricultural and Nothern Development. Name reverted 1989 to Department of Forestry and Agriculture at the same time as it re-absorbed the agriculture functions of the former Department of Rural, Agricultural and Nothern Development and its lands functions were transferred to the new Department of Environment and Lands
