There are two general levels of security classification in Canada: "classified" and "designated." The first general level "classified" concerns the national interest, and is the highest level of security classification. This level includes three sub-levels which are in ascending order: "Confidential," the lowest sub-level; "Secret" and "Top Secret." The second general level "designated" is of lesser importance; it concerns public and private interests. Document ayant ou nécessitant une classification de sécurité. Au Canada, il existe deux niveaux généraux : «classifié» et «désigné». Le premier niveau «classifié» est dans l'intérêt national et de ce fait il est le plus important. Ce niveau comprend trois sous-niveaux qui vont par ordre croissant : «Confidentiel» -sous-niveau le plus bas-; «Secret» et «Très secret». Utilisation des cotes de sécurité : Les cotes de sécurité sont invariables, commencent toujours par une majuscule et sont toujours mises entre guillemets.
