On parle souvent de nuisance ou de nocivité voire de dangerosité des déchets radioactifs. Qu'en est-il? La radioactivité ne génère pas à proprement parler de nuisances puisqu'elle est indétectable par nos sens. Les seules nuisances (au sens de désagrément) que peuvent faire encourir les matières radioactives abandonnées sans précautions spéciales, ou au contraire de façon réfléchie et selon des procédures écrites réglementaires, sont les nuisances socio-économiques.
