A deposit gauge consisting of a horizontal plate coated with petrolatum, to which particles of grit and dust in the dry air adhere when they fall on it. It is widely used in the Federal Republic of Germany.

Les poussières sédimentables sont recueillies à l'aide d'appareils simples, généralement placés sur des supports à une certaine hauteur du sol de façon à éviter que les poussières du sol, soulevées par les vents, ne viennent également s'y déposer. Il existe de nombreux types d'appareils, les plus courants sont les jauges de dépôt, les plaques Diem et les sphères liégeoises. La plaque Diem est recouverte d'un film de vaseline destiné à retenir les poussières déposées.
