La concentration de la liqueur noire se fait dans des évaporateurs, dont il existe divers types : à effets multiples (...), à circulation forcée (...), à compression de vapeur (...), à contact direct (...) Dans les évaporateurs à contact direct, le liquide à évaporer et le fluide calorifique ne sont plus dans des circuits distincts, mais au contact l'un de l'autre. On utilise alors les gaz de la chaudière de récupération pour concentrer la liqueur.
