Le courant des données binaires à l'entrée du codeur est à la cadence nominale de 1/T 90 Mb/s. Il est subdivisé en deux courants a et b chacun à la cadence 1/2T. Ces courants sont codés en différentiel afin d'éliminer les effets de propagation d'erreur, ils sont ensuite modulés en amplitude sur porteuses en quadrature, sommés et passés dans un filtre de codage duobinaire.
