In the Netherlands, Article 1 of the Constitution prohibits discrimination. The Dutch equal treatment laws elaborate on this norm. These laws are complex and prohibit unequal treatment in specific fields and on a limited number of grounds. The Dutch Equal Treatment Commission is an independent organization that was established in 1994 to promote and monitor compliance with these laws.
