Health Canada would ... like to remind Canadians that the maximum daily dosage for elemental iron is 45 mg per day for adults and youths between the ages 14-18 years and 40 mg per day for children between the ages of 0-13, unless a health care practitioner advises otherwise.

Il existe différents types de préparations de fer et leur teneur en fer élémentaire (pur) varie. Par exemple, 300 mg de fumarate de fer contiennent 100 mg de fer élémentaire (33 %), 300 mg de gluconate de fer contiennent 35 mg de fer élémentaire (11,6 %) tandis que 300 mg de sulfate de fer contiennent 60 mg de fer élémentaire (20 %).
