EMISSION PARTICULATE MATTER [1 record]

Record 1 - external organization data 2006-01-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Air Pollution
  • Pollutants
  • Mining Wastes
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
DEF

The particulates in suspended form in gases, or in the form of aerosols, which are introduced into the ambient air from the mouth of a stack, a flue or a tailpipe.

CONT

Particulate matter emissions generally come from industrial sources, stationary fuel combustion, and miscellaneous sectors. The overall decline in particulate emissions has been 8% and the industrial share of total particulate matter emissions declined from 70% in 1970 to 64% in 1980. The increase in the share in stationary fuel combustion and miscellaneous sectors was quite small.

CONT

The highest emission of particulate matter (fly ash and soot) is derived from the combustion of coal.

OBS

Particulates are any finely divided solid or liquid particles in the air or in an emission. Particulates include dust, smoke, fumes, and mist.

OBS

particulates: Generic term used interchangeably with "dust" to describe fine solid matter capable of entering atmospheric suspension.

  • Pollution de l'air
  • Agents de pollution
  • Déchets miniers
  • Tiroir - Commission canadienne de sûreté nucléaire
CONT
