Les décès susceptibles de bénéficier de soins palliatifs ont été regroupés selon trois trajectoires de fin de vie. Une première trajectoire se caractérise par un déclin abrupt avec un moment de décès relativement prévisible et concerne essentiellement les cas de cancers; une seconde trajectoire se caractérise par un déclin progressif ponctué d'épisodes aigus avec une mort souvent soudaine et imprévue, tel que rencontré dans les décès par maladies circulatoires et respiratoires chroniques; enfin, une troisième trajectoire présente un déclin graduel prolongé qui mène inexorablement vers la mort, ce que l'on retrouve chez les personnes atteintes de démence et de maladies du système nerveux. 2, record 1, French, - trajectoire%20de%20fin%20de%20vie
