La braquiterapia o implantación de elementos radioactivos es el tratamiento con radiaciones ionizantes en el que se coloca la fuente de radiación cerca de la lesión tumoral ya sea en la superficie del cuerpo (radioterapia de contacto), dentro de la cavidad (endoradioterapia) o dentro del mismo tumor (radioterapia intersticial), ésta última requiere una incisión en el órgano afectado para la implantación del elemento radiactivo.
