Four experiments studied the plasma environment. The magnetometer (MAG) measured the local magnetic field to determine the influence of the comet on the magnetized solar wind. JPA also studied this interaction by recording fluxes and velocity distributions for low to medium energy ions. High energy ions were detected by the energetic particle experiment, EPA.

Entre 18 000 et 15 000 km, un front de choc, plus important que prévu pour une si petite comète, a été observé par certains instruments. Les mesures du magnétomètre ne confirmèrent pas la découverte lors de l'approche de la comète, en la quittant, en revanche, ils détectèrent clairement un choc. L'expérience sur les particules énergétiques a fait apparaître des différences entre la comète de Halley et Grigg-Skjellerup, et la spectroscopie de masse a permis de recueillir de nombreuses données dont l'analyse se poursuit.
