L'appareillage de la méthode des lignes équipotentielles requiert une génératrice de courant alternatif à basse fréquence, au moins quatre électrodes métalliques, du câble, un voltmètre pour champ alternatif. Si on emploie du courant continu au lieu d'un courant alternatif, on utilise des piles sèches de haute tension au lieu de la génératrice et un voltmètre de champ continu.
