Ex Post Facto means "after the fact" -- studying the influence of independent variables after variation has occurred.

La recherche de type ex post facto possède trois faiblesses majeures. Tout d'abord, l'incapacité de manipuler les variables indépendantes, ensuite le manque de contrôle au niveau de la sélection aléatoire de l'échantillon, et finalement le risque inhérent à toute interprétation erronée. Somme toute, comparativement à une recherche expérimentale, et toutes choses étant égales par ailleurs, la recherche ex post facto manque de contrôle, d'où le danger d'une interprétation abusive.
