The Federal Framework for Biotechnology, based largely on the recommendations of the National Biotechnology Advisory Committee, annual report of 1987-88, recognized the importance of linking the regulation of products of biotechnology to the expertise and institutions already in place for conventionally derived products so as to prevent duplicate regulatory regimes.
