Jotunites are orthopyroxene-bearing rocks of mainly monzodioritic composition, commonly containing appreciable Fe-Ti oxide and apatite.

In the past, jotunites have been called gabbro-anorthosite, ferrodiorite, monzodiorite, gabbroic anorthosites, and oxide-apatite-gabbronorites.

Jotunites are distinguished from minor products of crystallization of anorthosite by their higher concentrations of Ti, Fe, and especially P.
