OBS

Information received on October 18, 1999 from the Coordinator for Olympic Solidarity and the Coordinator for Mini-Basketball at the FIBA Translation Department.

OBS

According to the coordinator, FIBA is the only abbreviation used by the International Basketball Federation and is therefore correct in English and French. The acronym FIBA is in fact used in all languages to refer to the Federation. The word "Amateur" was dropped in 1989 after the distinction between amateurs and professionals was eliminated. The "A" in FIBA remains for traditional reasons.

OBS
