A smaller ditch leading from a larger irrigation canal used for distribution of the irrigation water to individual fields.

CONT

Water is admitted to the plots or furrows from the field ditch at their highest points, by cutting the bank and using the earth to shut off the ditch below the cut, replacing it when irrigation is complete.
