Concrétion de CO3Ca très pure, en mince pellicule, flottant à la surface d'un lac souterrain ou d'un gour aux eaux très calmes. Sans doute, au contact de l'air, le bicarbonate de calcium dissous dans l'eau se précipite en carbonate de calcium et forme des plaques minces et légères qui flottent grâce à la tension superficielle de l'eau. Mais la moindre agitation provoque la chute de cette calcite sous forme de sable au fond du lac ou du gour, où elle peut former des dépôts épais à plusieurs couches superposées.
