La jachère forestière recouvre tous les ensembles de végétation ligneuse dérivant du défrichage d'une forêt naturelle dans le cadre de l'agriculture itinérante. Elle consiste en une mosaïque de diverses phases de succession et comprend des parcelles de forêt non défrichée et des champs qui ne peuvent pas être matériellement isolés et dont la superficie ne peut pas être comptabilisée, en particulier par image-satellite. La jachère forestière est une catégorie intermédiaire entre les utilisations forestière et non forestière.
