La mise au point, en 1895, de la technique d'extraction minière Frasch a permis d'exporter, à l'échelle mondiale, de forts tonnages de soufre bon marché [...]. Dans ce procédé, de l'eau très chaude, injectée dans le gisement souterrain au moyen d'un réseau de puits fait fondre le soufre. Il en résulte du soufre fondu qui alors remonte à la surface dans des conduites coaxiales installées dans chaque puits.
