L'étude de la marche a été faite par Marey en 1887, à l'aide du chronophotographe. Chaque pas comprend quatre temps. Dans le premier temps de double appui postérieur d'élan, le pied touche le sol par le talon antérieur, puis uniquement par les orteils. Dans le deuxième temps, phase oscillante, tandis que la hanche passe d'arrière en avant, la jambe légèrement fléchie, croise l'autre membre inférieur. Cette période correspond à l'appui unilatéral du côté opposé. Au cours du troisième temps, phase de double appui antérieur de réception, le pied touche le sol par le talon, alors que la jambe arrière ne l'a pas encore quitté. Le quatrième temps, d'appui unilatéral, est long, et sa durée correspond au double des temps additionnés de double appui; elle se raccourcit avec l'accélération de l'allure. 1, record 2, French, - pas
