De 1836 à 1937, en lieu et place de l'actuel Parc de Choisy, se trouvait un site de stockage de gaz de ville. La construction de 7 gazomètres (énormes cloches-réservoirs en partie enterrées) imposèrent une sécurisation préalable des terrains souminés par d'anciennes carrières souterraines. En leur aplomb fut ainsi érigés de massifs ouvrages de confortation; ils épousaient parfaitement les formes circulaires des gazomètres.
