English

Subject field(s)
  • Psychology (General)
  • Social Problems
DEF

An attempt to control behaviour through coercion, intimidation, physical force, finances, manipulation or guilt.

OBS

Abuse has always been associated with violent outbursts of anger. What is central, however, to the concept of abuse is the offender's belief in the right to control the other person. This attitude may be manifested in aggressivity, offensive language, disrespectful treatment or psychological coercion.

Key term(s)
  • general abuse

French

Domaine(s)
  • Psychologie (Généralités)
  • Problèmes sociaux
DEF
