Autrefois, les Indiens de la côte Ouest pratiquaient le troc avec les tribus de l'intérieur. L'une des marchandises qu'ils échangeaient était la graisse de certains poissons, qu'ils transportaient dans leurs fameuses boîtes en bois recourbé. C'est pourquoi les sentiers qu'ils empruntaient ont été baptisés "Grease Trails".
