A geographic designation used for administrative purposes by Citizenship and Immigration Canada and referring to a territory that could have been similar to the eastern part of the Metropolitan Toronto of before 1 January 1998, or that could have also included suburban municipalities. The Department can decide to name otherwise the administrative territory, taking into account the creation of the new city of Toronto. 2, record 1, English, - Greater%20Toronto%20Area%20%2D%20East
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
On 1 January 1998, the cities previously comprised in the "Metro(politan) Toronto" or the "Greater Toronto" (among them the previous cities of Toronto, of North York, of Scarborough, of York, of Etobicoke, and the old town of East York) were merged to become the new "city of Toronto." On that date, the previous regional administrative body ceased to exist; there should thus no longer be mention of the "Greater Toronto," the "Metro Toronto" or the "Metropolitain Toronto." 2, record 1, English, - Greater%20Toronto%20Area%20%2D%20East
