Ce type d'afficheur est dénommé "guest-host" par les Anglo-Saxons : les molécules de colorant "guest" sont orientées par celles voisines de cristal liquide "host". Il n'y a plus de polariseurs, l'angle de vue atteint 80 (degrés), mais le contraste est légèrement inférieur à celui des nématiques à hélice, et la tension de commande est deux à trois fois plus élevée. On trouve ce type d'afficheurs chez Epson, Hamlin, Hitachi, Hosien Matsushita, Optrex, Stanley, Toshiba ...
