Icing sugar, with or without the addition of starch, kneaded to a paste of modelling consistency with gum tragacanth mucilage. The paste can be moulded or modelled and is then air-dried till as hard and brittle as china. Many cake ornaments, vases, decorative motifs, and pillars are made from this material.

Préparation faite d'un mélange de sucre glace et d'eau, additionné de gélatine, d'amidon, de fécule ou de gomme adragante, pétri à la main ou à la machine et au crochet jusqu'à l'obtention d'une pâte ferme mais susceptible d'être abaissée au rouleau ou moulée facilement. Les pièces moulées ou découpées dans les abaisses de pastillage sont, après séchage à l'air, assemblées avec de la glace royale ou du pastillage ramolli. Le pastillage permet d'effectuer des pièces décoratives proches de la sculpture.
