Formed in 1982 by the joining together of three French panel manufacturing companies, Isorel, Leroy and Baradel, Isoroy has 14 panel making factories strategically located around the country, making particleboard, MDF, plywood, hardboard (which still bears the well-known 'Isorel' name), softboard (insulation board), OSB and melamine faced panels.

On distingue surtout l'Isorel dur, dont les utilisations sont comparables à celles du contre-plaqué, et l'Isorel mou, pour les utilisations comme isolant phonique et thermique.

A generic term for a panel manufactured primarily from interfelted lignocellulosic fibers (usually wood), consolidated under heat and pressure in a hot press to a density of 31 lbs/³ ft (sp gr 0.50) or greater and to which other materials may have been added during manufacture to improve certain board properties.

Certain hardboards such as the thick, medium-density board, are made primarily for the furniture market and are used interchangeably with particleboard.
