Inspection des finances. Organisme du ministère des Finances chargé de veiller à l'exécution correcte du budget et au bon ordre des finances en général. [...] Les inspecteurs des finances, sont des fonctionnaires de très haute qualification; leur formation a été modifiée après la seconde guerre et elle est assurée par l'École nationale d'administration (E.N.A.).

OBS

Le Consulat institue en 1801 un contrôle sur place des comptables publics. Il confie cette mission à des vérificateurs généraux du Trésor, dénommés par la suite inspecteur généraux du Trésor public, puis à partir de 1816, inspecteurs des Finances.
