In the literature, several rapid, continuous infrared detection methods for gas chromatographic eluates have been reported, in contrast to the more popular technique of collecting individually separated components in suitable solvent or condensing devices as they emerge from the chromatographic column. These trapped substances are then identified by infrared spectroscopy.
