ISAS utilizes "aerodynamic lifting bodies" to conduct space research and observations, and is developing launch vehicles and satellites for such purposes. In its former guise as part of Tokyo University Institute of Industrial Science in 1955, the organization conducted the horizontal flight tests of pencil rockets, and as Tokyo University Aerospace Research Center, it launched Japan's first artificial satellite, Ohsumi, in 1970. These entities disappeared in 1981 in a "progressive amalgamation" under the direct control of the Ministry of Education. The head office of ISAS is at Sagamigahara in Kanagawa Prefecture, and the test range is at Uchinoura in Kagoshima Prefecture. 3, record 1, English, - Institute%20of%20space%20%26%20astronautical%20Science

2, record 1, French, - Institut%20de%20science%20spatiale%20et%20d%27astronautique
