Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) is a continuous planning process in which stakeholders and regulators reach general agreement on the best mix of conservation, sustainable resource use and economic development for coastal areas. Goals to be achieved through an ICZM process include: conservation, based on an ecosystem approach, for the purposes of maintaining biological diversity and productivity of coastal environments and preserving ecosystem health; sustainable use of coastal resources; and economic diversification and the generation of wealth for the benefit of all Canadians, but in particular, coastal communities.

La gestion intégrée des zones côtières est un processus de planification continue qui permet aux intervenants et aux législateurs de mettre au point le meilleur train possible de mesures de conservation ou d'utilisation durable des ressources et de développement économique pour les zones côtières. Les objectifs de la gestion intégrée des zones côtières sont les suivants : conservation des ressources, selon une approche écosystémique, afin de préserver la diversité biologique et la productivité du milieu côtier et la santé des écosystèmes; utilisation durable des ressources côtières; et diversification économique et production de richesses au profit de tous les Canadiens, en particulier les collectivités côtières.
