WHO's (World Health Organization) INTERHEALTH research project has shown that the situation regarding noncommunicable diseases in developing countries is similar to that in the industrialized world 30 years ago. Community-based prevention is therefore the strategy that WHO promotes to reduce risk factors, increase life expectancy and reduce morbidity.
