DNA adducts, a reliable indicator of internal dose exposure to genotoxic agents and, possibly, of cancer risk, have been shown to be modulated by diet, particularly by the consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables, and by the intake of antioxidants.

On a recours à la biodisponibilité pour estimer la dose interne que reçoit un récepteur par suite de l'exposition à un contaminant. Certains contaminants sont mal absorbés par le corps, de sorte que la dose interne s'avère beaucoup moins importante que la dose d'exposition.

In the case of radiation dose from external (i.e. outside the body) sources, a personal dosimeter is the usual method of measurement, while for internal dose (i.e., from radioactivity taken into the body), some form of bioassay or in vivo monitoring is the usual method.
