Fondée en 1981, l'Association Internationale d'études Occitanes (AIEO) a pour objectif de favoriser et coordonner les recherches dans le domaine des études occitanes. Elle a ainsi pour vocation de rassembler, en dehors de toute doctrine ou tendance, tous ceux qui se consacrent à ces recherches dans le monde entier, qu'ils soient médiévistes ou modernistes, linguistiques ou littéraires, qu'ils envisagent les problèmes de la langue et de la littérature d"oc en eux-mêmes ou dans leurs rapports avec leur environnement culturel et social.
