[An] international organization founded by the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers' Association (IDMA) in 1975 to establish uniform rules for diamond grading and nomenclature. In 1978, the organization established the IDC Rules for grading polished diamonds, a system used by the Hoge Raad voor Diamant of Antwerp, the Swedish National Testing Institute, the Jewellery Council of South Africa, the Diamant Prüflabor of Idar-Oberstein, Germany, and the Central Gem Laboratory of Japan.
