The International Register of Potentially Toxic Chemicals was established in 1976 as a bureau of the UN Environment Programme. This office is located in Geneva. IRPTC's mandate is to collect information on hazardous chemicals and disseminate it to anyone who needs the data. The office operates a global network for information exchange. A database on all toxic chemicals serves as the basis of this network and free publications help to spread the word. The Register also offers training in areas related to the control of hazards and provides a Query Response Service to help in the event of emergencies.

Le Registre international des substances chimiques potentiellement toxiques a été établi en 1976 en tant que bureau du Programme des Nations Unies pour l'Environnement.
