ISOELECTRIC POINT [3 records]

Record 1 2011-06-01

English

Subject field(s)
  • Electrochemistry
  • Electrometallurgy
DEF

A state of net electrical neutrality of a colloid with respect to its surrounding medium, or the state of equivalent charges of opposite signs on amphions (dipolar ions).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Électrochimie
  • Électrométallurgie
DEF

État dans lequel un colloïde est exactement neutre électriquement par rapport au milieu environnant, ou encore état pour lequel des charges équivalentes, de signes contraires, se trouvent sur les amphions (ions dipolaires).

Record 2 2011-05-31

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
DEF

The pH value at which the net electric charge of an elementary entity is zero.

OBS

pI is a commonly used symbol for this kind-of-quantity. It should be replaced by pH(I) because it is a pH determined under that particular condition.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
DEF

Point auquel une surface ne présente pas d'électroosmose ou auquel une particule ne donne pas lieu à l'électrophorèse.

Record 3 2003-10-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
  • Molecular Biology
DEF

The pH at which a substance is electrically neutral or at which it is at its minimum ionization.

DEF

The pH at which a molecule (usually an amino acid of protein) has no net charge and will not move in an electric field.

OBS

Iso-electric focusing: A technique for separating proteins according to their iso-electric points. The mixture of proteins is placed in a pH gradient established by ampolines in an electric field across a liquid or a gel matrix; the proteins move in the electric field until they reach their iso-electric points in the pH gradient where, having lost net charge, they are focused.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sciences biologiques
  • Biologie moléculaire
OBS

Le point isoélectrique est à distinguer du point iso-ionique caractérisé par l'égalité du nombre des charges positives et négatives portées par la molécule, bien que ces deux points soient très proches et habituellement confondus.
