Un planeur à réaction. Le planeur est non seulement un instrument de formation des pilotes, mais il constitue en outre un excellent moyen d'études en hautes altitudes. Il impose cependant de gênantes obligations au décollage et dans la recherche des courants aériens sustentateurs. Un moteur d'avion du type «turbine à gaz», s'il offre l'avantage de la légèreté pour une forte puissance, ne permet pas encore des vols économiques et longs pour de petits avions. Il semblait donc intéressant de tenir compte de ces considérations et de doter un planeur d'une turbine à gaz. Encore fallait-il un moteur de poids et d'encombrement faibles; la petite turbine «Turbomeca Troll» pesant 50 kg, mesurant 40 cm de diamètre et 120 cm de long, l'a permis sur un appareil français : le Fouga Cyclone, récemment mis au point.
