The Canada-European Union Joint Political Declaration and Action Plan (1996) fosters direct links between the peoples of Canada and the European Union. The agreement enhances co-operation on economic issues by further strengthening economic and trade relations, both bilaterally and multilaterally. Moreover, it addresses foreign policy and security issues such as Euro-Atlantic security; co-operation on global issues; regional co-operation; and development and humanitarian assistance. La Déclaration de politique commune et le Plan d'action Canada-Union européenne (1996) favorisent des liens directs entre les peuples du Canada et de l'Union européenne.
