L'échelle Kelvin fut inventée par le mathématicien et physicien britannique Sir William Thomson Kelvin au XIXe siècle. Cette échelle de température absolue utilise les degrés Celsius, mais qui commence au zéro absolu, soit environ -273 °C. Dans cette échelle, la température de fusion de la glace est 273°K.
