"Contrefaçon" se situe, dans la langue française, à un niveau de langue supérieur à celui qu'occupe "knock-off" dans la langue anglaise. Cependant "contrefaçon" recouvre convenablement la notion d'imitation frauduleuse d'un produit commercialisé.

La tradition lexicographique maintient à côté de "contrefaçon" une entrée "contrefaction". Il s'agit (...) du même mot. "Contrefaction" est pratiquement inusité.
