Because of the emphasis on actually giving access to a representation of the knowledge that they attempt to communicate, I will call these [instructional] systems knowledge communication systems.

OBS

Wenger (1987) distinguishes between two classes of instructional systems involving artificial intelligence: active knowledge communication systems, which require all the functions in the diagram; and more passive systems, which require only those in the lower half, and which can be called knowledge presentation systems.
