Leucism ... is a partial loss of pigmentation, which can make the animal have white or patchily colored skin, hair, feathers and so on, but the pigment cells in the eyes are not affected by the condition. Leucisim is often mistaken for albinism, but they are two very different conditions.

Le leucisme a des symptômes similaires à l'albinisme, sauf que seuls certains types de cellules sont concernés par la dépigmentation. Ainsi, les animaux atteints conservent une couleur des yeux normale, et certaines parties de leurs corps sont normalement colorées. C'est par exemple le cas des célèbres tigres blancs, mais d'autres animaux peuvent être touchés, comme l'alligator, le crapaud, le lion, l'ours ou la girafe.
