Carbonate de chaux impur, contenant au moins 50 à 56 % de CaO, utilisé comme fondant au cubilot et au haut fourneau, pour scorifier la silice provenant des cendres du coke, du sable, des gueuses de fonte ou de la gangue du minerai. Elle a pour effet de retenir le soufre du combustible, par formation de sulfure de calcium SCa insoluble dans la fonte.
