En plus du fleuve, les principaux milieux limnicoles sont les suivants : - Les canaux. Le réseau a un débit moyen de 35 m³/s. L'irrigation a pour conséquence la dessalinisation du sol, à cause de son action continue sur les terres de lessivage et des constantes infiltrations d'eau douce. - Les rizières. Elles fonctionnent d'avril à novembre comme une authentique lagune temporaire peu profonde de 10 à 20 cm, d'eaux douces, avec un taux de rénovation élevé (3 à 5 jours), avec un apport irrégulier d'eau en fonction du cycle de la culture et avec une entrée de nutriments d'origine agronomique (N, P et K) très peu constante mais en général très importante. [...] - Les lagunes. Elles sont connectées aux rizières à travers des canaux d'irrigation. Elles constituent des indicateurs à plus grande échelle des processus qui ont lieu sur les terres cultivées.
