Le système capacitif de détection de position conduit à la génération d'un courant de compensation dans une bobine auxiliaire, qui, par induction, fournit le champ magnétique d'asservissement. La contre-partie pour obtenir l'ensemble des performances liées à ce principe de lévitation magnétique est la nécessité de rendre le matériau de la sphère et des deux bobines (Nb) supraconducteur; ceci est obtenu en opérant dans un bain d'hélium liquide qui est maintenu à 4,2 K à l'intérieur d'un Dewar réfrigéré.
