L'origine la plus simple [de la couleur du sol] correspond à la persistance dans le sol de la coloration de la roche-mère. Les sols qui doivent ainsi leur couleur aux éléments chromogènes de la roche-mère sont dits «lithochromes»; ils sont généralement pauvres en humus.
