The Royal Winnipeg Rifles, founded in 1883; the eldest militia regiment in Western Canada and the most decorated on in the country. Fish Creek (1885) is where the regiment was tagged the Devils by Metis leader Gabriel Dumont, struck as he was by their dark green uniforms as opposed to the British soldiers' flaming red dress.
